But I intend to use about 90 of those hours this summer.

I take time off all the time, still have 220 vacation hours, 200 sick hours. Just came take them fast enough. I am taking 88 this summer as well.

You get time limits for how often you are “allowed” to be sick?

Oh man, 12 days, what would you even do with all those days off?!?!
America, land of the “free,” home of the “hard working.”

You were doing it wrong.
Also, why are sick and vacation grouped together?
My employer urges its employees to actually use the vacation time it provides. Because they convert overtime to vacation time and they expect about 4 hours of overtime a week I have about 47 days (as in: more than 9 weeks) of paid vacation a year. I don’t even know what to do with that many days off.

My job may not be a nice office job, but I get 160 hours of paid vacation time per year.

Days are calculated at 7 hours for me.
That’s on top of the six weeks of vacation I’ve taken in the past year.
I’m planning on switching jobs, so I’m not touching it, because my work buys back my unused vacation time.

I get 120 hours of vacation (3 weeks worth) per year. Already used one, going for my second in July, and the third sometime this fall.

Haha, I couldn’t imagine ever having that much leave time provided. I think it’s taken me two years to save this much.

For payroll purposes, vacation and sick hours are the same, and can be used for either.

I’ve never been pleased with the amount of time off I’ve been provided annually. I think I kind of just block it out because the job has other perks to compensate.

I think I only get 120-135.

That’s kind of the truth. Came in to work many times when I certainly would rather not.

It's really crazy. I've never worked anywhere else that gives so much annual leave. I have a coworker who took every Friday off for six months because he hit the cap (I think it’s something like 300 hours) and stopped accruing.

I gave him a huge mental middle finger every Thursday when he'd tell me to have a good weekend.

Envious. I lost 60 hours of sick time last year because I didn’t use it and no rollover/buyback available.

I have an impossibly strong immune system and I never get sick. Every year I get a check back for something like 70hrs of unused sick pay. It’s the best thing ever it’s like a second tax return.

I missed having paid time off when I was in the trades. “Take all the time you want! We ain’t paying for it..” Which hurts your Healthcare and Retirement credits.
It was still better than being Management. 3 weeks of time off but they frowned on using any of it during the “busy season”. So May through August were off limits. Why even offer it?
90 hours off should be easy to kill even if you just chill at home over the Summer. Practice your BBQ skills!

For the first couple of years after I entered the private sector, we were working like gangbusters and I accumulated nearly two months of vacation. I wasn’t the only one. With so many people having so much time off, they finally decided we couldn’t carry over more than 250 hours and would pay out any hours. That was a mistake. It cost them a fortune.
The next year, they told us to take vacation or lose the hours.
I still have weeks of vacation built up from those years. They will come in handy if I ever need them.

I was confused as well. Must be an American thing. When I’m sick, I’m sick. Period. This has zero effect on paid days off. No such thing as sick days you have to build up here.

I get 160 hours holiday a year based on a four day week (if I worked five days I’d get 200 or just over) which works out at five and a half weeks off.

I wasn’t taking a jab at your job because 12 days is a lot, which is the problem. Even a very good job will probably only give you a few weeks off a year in this country. I mean, here in California, it took the state legislature to mandate paid sick leave, but employers are only required to give three days off. Thankfully the legislatures were a little smart and worded it in such a way that it makes it seem like we’re supposed to get 6 days off a year, but buried deep within the bill, it says you’re only required to give three days off.
Personally, I think just three days off a year is kind of low, but I should take what I can get.

I wish my current job offered something like that. However at the new job that I am about to start I am technically an independent contractor. I still think if I want an extended bit off I have to pass it by the sales manager.
